As the director of educational outreach at the Holocaust Documentation and Education Center for twenty-six years, Merle Saferstein worked closely with hundreds of Holocaust survivors helping them to pass along their Legacy of Remembrance to hundreds of thousands of students and teachers. She developed a course entitled Living and Leaving Your Legacy® and teaches and speaks to audiences locally, nationally, and internationally.
Merle works closely with the patients at the end of their lives doing sacred legacy work. She volunteers at a camp for children who experienced the death of a family member—helping them gain important tools to cope with their grief, and facilitates an all-day parent session at these camps. She also leads a writing class at Gilda’s Club for women who have been impacted by cancer.
For 14 years, Merle culled through her journals taking excerpts according to approximately 70 topics. Living and Leaving My Legacy, Vol. 1, a book containing 11 of these topics was released in 2022, with another 11 published in Vol. 2 in 2023.
Merle is also the author of Room 732, a council member of the International Association of Journal Writers, and a contributor to various publishing platforms.

Jenny has walked through life wearing many hats as an artist, writer, and an explorer of alternative health solutions in effort to find relief from chronic Lyme disease. After earning her Graphic Design degree in California and returning to her home state of South Dakota, Jenny exercised her love of variety as a promotional marketing consultant, where she branded and marketed a vast range of local and nationwide businesses and organizations for ten years.
As a respected South Dakota roster artist since 2016, Jenny has taught her digital and fine art talent to numerous students and staff in schools and nonprofits across the state—specializing in basic art education, photorealism drawing, photography, and graphic design to boost brand integrity. She’s also volunteered her artistry toward raising Lyme disease awareness through the successful grassroots campaign the Lyme Disease Challenge, where she and other contributors reached well-known celebrities that would make the campaign synonymous with Lyme Disease Awareness Month.
Jenny joined the Wisdom of the Century team after designing and formatting Merle R. Saferstein’s book Living and Leaving My Legacy, Vol. 1, a compilation of decades worth of life and lessons through legacy journaling. For more information please visit jennymenzel.com
